The Smooth Grooves Concert Series is a monthly event that encourages music lovers to gather and share in the artistry of music and the beauty of good fellowship in an intimate setting that is sure to make the experience one to remember.

Featured on the main stage are National, Regional and Local artists who represent the best in Jazz, Blues, R&B, Funk, and Soul for your listening pleasure.

This months featured artists are:

The Steve Roper Band featuring National Recording Artist and Smooth Jazz Saxophonist, Flautist and Vocalist, Paula Atherton.

Paula Atherton is a singer/songwriter/woodwind player from the NY area.  She has toured Japan, Monte Carlo, Portugal, the US and Canada.  In 2004, Paula played at the Blue Note in NYC for a week with jazz pianist Hank Jones, in a tribute to Frank Sinatra. Also in 2004 her first CD, “Let Me Inside Your Love,” debuted on the national contemporary jazz charts.  In 2006, a cut from this CD, “I Long For Your Love,” was released on Warner Europe, on a CD called, “Ladies of Jazz.”  She is joined on this CD by Natalie Cole, Candy Dulfer, Eliane Elias, and other female jazz artists.  Also in 2006, Paula performed on TV with Michael Bolton, on Rachael Ray, Today, and Good Morning America.  Other TV appearances include Nueva Estrella awards (CBS), and bandleader for the Lifetime network show, “Girl’s Night Out” (30 episodes).  Paula wrote the score for the independent film, “The Definition of Insanity,” in 2002, which premiered in NYC in 2004. 

Her latest CD, “Groove With Me” features a diverse collection of musical talents including, Chieli Minucci (Special EFX), Greg Adams (Tower of Power), Onaje Allan Gumbs, and Bill Heller (Rippingtons) among others. This is not your typical smooth jazz collection; it is spiced with plenty of funk, classic R&B, and Latin flavors. The first single, “Winds of Change (Yes We Can),” features Paula on soprano, with a beautiful slow and soothing Latin groove. Paula delivered funky vocal tunes on the Album, as a well as the gospel influenced, “Send Down An Angel.” “Groove With Me”, reflects Atherton’s creative songwriting abilities on each track with the exception of a cover of the classic Ashford and Simpson tune, “You’re All I Need To Get By.” The cover of the classic song, is a duet featuring Greg Adams on the trumpet and Paula on the alto.
